During a family vacation in the summer of 2021 to Alaska, Sia Malhotra, a New Jersey resident, noticed something exciting at the Anchorage airport. She was awed by a free library present at the terminal with kids books. Sia is an avid reader and loves books. She instantly fell in love with the free airport library and found it very useful. Her immediate reaction was "Mommy, why don’t we have a free library at our airport in New Jersey? We should have one at the Newark airport as well. It is so much busier than the airport in Alaska". After the vacation and a few months later, Sia was still thinking and brainstorming ideas with her parents about adding a free library at the Newark airport. She thought that it would be very valuable at the New airport because it is one of the busiest airports in the country. Sia also thought that it would be helpful for kids (and adults) to use the free library and read books rather than spending time on their phones and tablets. Sia got in touch with the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, who loved the idea and were very excited at the prospect of adding a free library to the airport. Sia worked with the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey to finalize the design of the library that would meet the airport standards. Sia also got in touch with the local Home Depot to help her build the library.
